First paved in 1954, the infield road course was just re-added to the venerable track for the 2005 race season.
The 1.8 mile road course uses almost all of the oval (run clockwise, the opposite direction of the oval-only track) with the rest of the course running through the infield. It is a very challenging mix of high-speed straights, tight hairpin turns, and high-speed banked turns. On the other hand, it could be described as four long straights connected by three hairpins and a carousel. The majority of elevation changes are in entering and exiting the banking, but the infield section has some minor dips and undulations.
The follow sections describe the turns or series of turns on the race track in a step by step detail from various people who have driven the track
