It'd be an interesting business plan to see. Figure 400-500m minimum to build a track good enough for Bernie and another 100m every 10 years to keep bernie happy. Bernies fee per race and so on. I dunno...

to those bagging on Austin (it is a weird town, but hey what town with character isn't?) its big enough to have stuff needed to support a race of that caliber without being so big that a track big enough for the event will be so far away that it wouldn't matter - the site that has been purchased (800 acres) is 15 min from the airport...
add in the millions of people within driving distance from Houston, Dallas, etc plus people that might fly into those cities and drive over, or fly into Austin, or... it'll be a big crowd there for sure
another advatage of TX in general is you'd have a much wider range during the year in which to build on the track and also host the event. Hell NASA races from the end of January through October here, and we'd go later in the year if football didn't cut into race attendance I could see this event being scheduled anytime between mid February and late October... and they def could be building on it year round
as far as the Tilke comments, well, the head guy for the track that's been giving interviews swears he's going to make sure its more like his earlier work (Turkey) and not the crap he's been putting out lately. Guess we'll see...

I don't have a problem with Austin... I think that a lot of Europeans would find the prospect of a trip to Texas to be intriguing, and they'd find plenty to do there.
What I can't figure out is if this guy really has the 750 million bucks to pull this off, or if he's leveraged the concept to the point that he expects people to flock to him with money.
