Default Trackpedia rFactor Challenge - Indianapolis Motor Speedway USGP Circuit - Round 2

Opening up the thread for the second round of the trackpedia challenge. This week we travel to the hallowed ground that is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Will anyone be able to match Mark Repka's opening day pace, will folks find setups that work with the massive IMS front straight and slow infield, and more importantly who will come home claiming drinking the virtual champaign this week!?

Look forward to it everyone!

Hey John, and everyone else... could we maybe try this version:

http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail...anapolis%20GP4

Instead of the one on the wiki? I think it is a better rendered track than the standard. This one looks much more like it was developed with an eye towards the road course, not just an afterthought on an oval design.

Just a thought

That one didnt get great reviews though, the V1.0 one looks pretty good. Any initial times from anyone? I'm around 1:45 right now

I did a 1:38.3 earlier today. Not happy with it though, still running the stock setup.

We're sticking with one I posted Stack. I tested both out at length and I went with the most realistic track. The GP4 track was awful in a lot of segments and unrealistically slippery.

Ty glad your already turning the laps. I did a 1:36.8 after I increased 6th gears length.

I can't wait for the drafting and passing into 1 but the killer is you just cant get more speed out of the car as your limited in gearing.

Biggest pain with this new track is the back section of the infield. The T1-T5 complex flow but the back section is just in 1st and 2nd gear.

I have a feeling however this track will have some of the best racing of the season because it has a lot of spaces to pass compared to other tracks.

Played with the gears a bit and got down to 1:37.3. Hitting the rev limiter at the line and running full rpm until the braking zone. I'm afraid the engines won't last that long being tortured like that. Faster times than real life but way off where I think I should be. The car just doesn't feel right.

Ty I agree that it seems like the gears just arent right. Everyone says this track is damn hard to setup for and it appears we are seeing that now. I am going more wing for the infield. I took it all off but the .25-.5 a second I gain down the straight just doesnt seem like its worth grunting it around the infield.

I ran 1:1, 5:4, 8:7, 12:11, and 15:15 wing angles and with all of them except for the max I can run a 1:37.xx (1:38.8 with the 15:15). The wing angles seem to all balance out in the end, it's more the mechanical grip I need to figure out

Agree with you 100% Ty we need to be able to fine more mechanical grip. Did the same experiment as you tonight for 4 laps with each wing setup and the damn thing performs the same. 1:37.8 or so with everything.

Tomorrow I can going to screw around with making the suspension softer all around.

At first I found the track boring but now that I got probably 20-30 laps under my belt I am starting to enjoy the flow of it. Everything except the friggin 2nd gear turns on the last part of the infield...god that is painful!
