Default Oldest Active Roadrace Track in North America

While it is often assumed that Watkins Glen may be, I did more research and applied the rule of "at its current location".

From what I could determine, WG was active at its current location on the hill for the 1955 season. There was a bigger track around the same area before that and the Town based one as early as 1948.

Limerock never hosted an organized race until 1957.

Old ones like Bridgehampton, Riverside, etc are gone.......

It's got to be Indianapolis Motor Speedway, doesn't it?

Willow Springs claims to be the first.

"Construction of the track began in 1952, with the inaugural event held on November 23, 1953."

I have run a gazillion laps on the big track at Willow Springs. I consider it my home track. It is known as the "fastest road in the West" and is an official historical place of interest in California. Road racing in the California desert since 1953. The track is older than me.

Seems like Willow is the winner........... WG diehards may want to point out its early NASCAR and USGP/F1 history.

Man Erik I never even thought about this but you are correct! I remember reading about it once in a book about IMS.

I note that WG celebrates 60 years on 10/2/2008. In 1948, on a different course, they started racing in the area when they stopped the trains and ran through the town.
