Default Porsche 997 GT3 front hood

I noticed that the 997GT3 has vents over the front bumper just at the bottom of the 'hood' for you Americans. I reckon it's to let air flow up from the dam, right?

Darkworks RUF has the same system from his photo. Is it the same with some aero benefits? Anyone know?

Billy,
Are you refering to the vents on the front bumper? If so, these create downforce and help the front end stay put at higher speeds. This was first implemented in the 996 GT2.

Yep
I just saw em on Darkworks RUF Turbo and was wondering how hard to add on to a normal 996 or do you just get a GT2 bumper and hood.

This company has a GT2 front bumper for the 99-01 narrow body cars (even though it is not pictured) http://www.mashaw.com/html/product_info.html
There is a fellow on Rennlist (Karlooz) that has a Supercharged 99 C2 with it. Looks really good.

Wonder if it's functional or just lip gloss

Hey Billy. For that vent to work, you have to get the bodyshop to move the intercoolers in the original bumper forwards about 1.3 inches and slant it downwards. There's a lot of P-Cars in Van city that has "FAKE" vents, meaning they have not moved their intercoolers.

As for the RUF piece came with a full kit with vent ducts and intercooler-blowers so the air is forced over the hood. It IS supposed to increase down force by 35% (Claims Ruf) at over 120 MPH and from what I noticed it does make the car "stickier".

Next to that there are the vent-plates which can be manually adjusted for more down-force or higher-top speeds. There is a basic manual about how to achieve optimal usage of the vent. I personally was blown away by the amount of time RUF had put into R&D for the vents. If you want a set please e-mail Andrew @ www.weissach.com. It'll set you back about $3500 USD without installation.

happy modifying!

Thats just the front, right? I'd need a rear piece also to balance it out?

I would go with a GT3 rear spoiler on the narrow bodied cars. I have seen the GT2 spoiler on them and it looks too big IMO. You will also need some GT3 side skirts to balance out the look. This thread is getting expensive!!! lol

Yep
The aero stuff is very expensive. Suspension seems cheaper Plus, there aren't a lot of tracks where the aero would help in the car I think.
