I think they're pretty cool for what they are. Put some heavy springs in that and it would be lots of fun.

Glad to see he was enjoying it, although I still have trouble understanding why someone would try to make one into a track car.

In Japan they have or had a racing spec series for these cars. You will see the same thing done with the Honda Fit from time to time

I was at that event at Streets of Willow on Sept. 23. There were two Yaris (the other one was black). They were sliding a lot, especially around the skidpad turn.

Here's something to consider........
at 106HP and 2295 pounds, the Yaris starts out similar to a A2 Golf and both are FWD. An A2 Golf is a pretty good running ITB car. The IT'ers have already talked about Yaris in ITB.
A good running ITB car with do a 2:25 at Watkins Glen. Now let's compare that to the somewhat popular 944/SP1 which does about a 2:24 at WGI. So I'd bet in ITB trim, a Yaris would run right with the other 2.
A brand new Yaris is $11K, throw in a generous $5K for IT prep and you have a brand new race car for $16,000.
Some people might find that a decent deal..........

Maybe...
But you still have to factor in the durability of components, aftermarket availablilty of upgrades such as intake and exhaust (which I'm going to guess will be fairly limited, at least at this point), the fact that you're still being pulled around the track by FWD, etc. To each their own I guess. It's just nothing about that set-up sounds overly appealing to me (but, what do I know, I drive a "convertible" for crying out loud ).
Kudos to the guy for bringing it out though and so long as he's enjoying it, who cares what I or anyone else thinks.

Being an ITB racer (I have tracked much faster cars too), I'll "defend" this a bit more...........
- a properly set-up FWD car is better than many of you may think, especially on a damp track
- if you look at those times I posted above, you'll note that the back of the pack contains some lauded cars
- aftermarket......... at least for ITB, everything you can change is there. KW has coilovers, there's lightweight wheels etc. Any cage would be custom anyway.
