Radical Sports Cars looking for info
I have been reading about these monsters. I am a little puzzled about a few things. First off price, It seems used Radicals go for 30k and up. Is this correct and what to look for when buying used. I was on a the Florida site and it seems as if the used cars go for $60k and up My next question is rebuilds, If the car is based of the "Hybusa" why rebuilds after 50 hours of track time. It would seem to me they would be more durable, what are the typical failures??? Lastly what race series are available and are they accepted at most lapping events? Ok one more, I have heard that some have pushed to make these road legal??? Seems insane to me.
I am not pushing to purchase but if money was to fall into my lap I might run to a dealer
Thanks
John

They are a blast to drive and relatively cheap to run. The motors in the car at 50 hour engines because they are built up Suzuki motors in most cases bored out to the max for the bikes case to make enough power to be competitive in CSR. You can run a normal Hyabusa and be perfectly competitive in regional races but need the built motor to run in nationals.
As far as race series there are a ton. SCCA and the Radical Series are the normal.
The 30k or less cars you are talking about is the Radical Prosport, the 60k+ car is the SR3/4 cars and the 100k+ car is the SR8

This issue with them is you can't run PCA DE events etc. I'll probably buy one once I'm bored of my 944 sp1. If you just want a track car for the clubs that allow them then just get a normal motor. The newer bike engines are 190bhp and plenty to scare the crap out of anyone.

You can't run PCA DE events with Nordstern you CAN with a lot of the other PCA clubs and other car clubs around the US. NASA allows them as well. Bottom line you will be able to find plenty of track days.

Thanks for the info, so what are the other advantages to a built hyabusa. Rev limits, power band etc. It seems a bit odd to opt for a built engine with 205hp 50hrs over a 190hp motor that can run for 30k km+. Do you guys no of any forums/websites.

Radical Racing West and its owner, John Morris, own Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Nevada. They run a Radical racing school, Corvette racing school, and their own Radical race series. Numerous Radical owners garage their cars at the track. Car transportation to other tracks and trackside service are offered. Spring Mtn. is a country club track with private memberships too.
We run with the Radicals frequently at the Calif. and Nev. tracks. They had a Radical run group at the SpeedVentures event Labor Day weekend on the Big Track at Willow Springs.

15hp on a chassis that weighs as much as a cotton swab is HUGE. It's all about how competitive you want to be, if you want to run at the front, you'll need to fork over the greenbacks...

I'd say forget about it w.r.t nationals. I've heard rumors of high 100k+ budgets in DSR to win at Nationals on top of the car price. You will not be competitive for the title in DSR unless you are rich, simple as that or you're such a good driver than you can out drive the rich guy or you're happy for a top 10 finish etc. It depends on what competitive means for the driver.
For regionals and for track days, the stock motor should be fine. This is basically what John was doing pre burn up. Run a stock R1 motor.
