Default SP1 News

I just heard that a good Minnesota PCA racer who has been out of commission for a while bought a 944 SP1 from another Nord Sterner who has not driven this year. He will be racing next year.

Other SP1 stuff from a friend... (This is not from me, but I can get this guys contact info.)

pump, timing belt, oil pan baffle, etc. Car is cosmetically challenged
but it starts, runs and idles smoothly. I can fill in any details for
anyone who is serious.
I have a stack of parts I picked up to sweeten the deal. Wheels, motor
mounts, factory headers, S2 torsion bars, A-arms, etc.
This is an ideal candidate for an SP1 Club Race car, which was my
intent. I'm looking for someone who can complete my vision and put this
car on the track. If you are looking for a project car, this is the one.
Asking $1500. Extra parts are negotiable. I need space!

Where is it in MN and how bad "cosmetically challenged" is? was it an accident or just the age/work? any pics? any chance to see it?
You can pm the info of that gut so I can call him if he's in MN.
Thank you for the information.

Nick,
I've seen the car, it's a Grey 944 and is the typical "primer let go of the top coat" peeling. I don't recall any major body damage and I know he has started a good going through of the mechanicals. This is a great buy and will make a good SP1 race car.

Thank you for your comment. I have been thinking to join the track crew for a long time, so when I heard about this one I thought that might be it. Not sure I can bring it to SP1 - I was thinking to start something small to get my driving skills to the level, but who knows the most important is to start.

Beauty is you can add on as funds and time allows. It doesn't have to start out as a dedicated SP1 car for sure. You can add just a bar and still drive it to the track. With that year, I'll have all the spare parts in the trailer so when your there with us, you'll have built in track support. We do some of the best 'redneck' engineering you can imagine. (ie. Rob's shifter at RA)

Can't beat the price at $1500

How wrong can you go fro $1500? You have support at the track and in Rochester. You can always sell parts if you wreck it.

You would have all winter to repaint it with at "race car quality" paintjob.

Many people recomend starting somewhat stock so that you can feel the changes as you make them.

I've heard it was only driven by an old lady to church and market....

No seriously Beatty is a good wrench and I know he put a lot of time into the rod bearings and bottom end of the motor.

Good to hear that. Thanks for support. I was planning it this way, so I'll find something running, so I'll work on it when I have time, so I wasn't proposing any special series modification. Price is right, that's true.

Well, that's what I was thinking too after reading stories from track people. Billy and Rob here are good examples. For myself I was thinking older E36 as a project but... when you see 944 for $1500 it's hard not to propose it as a start. I don't really care for paint on a racecar, as long as it is not rust. Engine and suspension are more important.

Good to hear. I'll give him an e-mail tonight. I'll see what we can work out.
