Well, looks like it shouldn't be too hard to fix, but you may want to do some looking around. I suspect that belt was not changed during the build, which means other belts and hoses probably weren't either. Might be worth doing.

I'll add the conclusion of this here. The belts broke again at Road America over the weekend and after some sleuthing, it turns out the problem is the pulleys are not matched. The engine crank pulley takes a 5 rib belt which is correct for 944s built before 85.5 or June 85. But, the alternator pulley takes a 6 rib belt which is correct for 944s built after that time. I can only put on a 5 rib belt which means it's not supported on the alternator as it's expecting a wider belt. I just gotta source a pulley for the alternator and then this shouldn't happen again.

If you can use them, I have some extra pulleys. I checked and took some pictures, the alt. pulley is five rib. These are from my '88 Corvette which I put under drive pulleys on. Maybe there is a three piece under drive pulley set for your car, or you could measure it and a place would find the right one you need. I was going to throw these pulleys out so no fee if you can use them.
