$1.189/L right now... methinks I'll be buying the water heater and 55-gal drum sooner than I thought. Biodiesel here I come! Should also consider eventually converting the Porker to ethanol.

Ethanol costs way more than gasoline. It's only cheaper at the pump (and barely so) due to huge subsidies on ethanol and huge taxes on gasoline.
I'd rather fuel my vehicle with stuff from underground than from corn that poor people can no longer afford because you're sticking it into your car.

Or I could start growing corn at the family cottage.

Granted oil companies benefit, but it's the world markets that decide the prices. Saw some statistics previously that american oil companies couldn't affect prices even if they wanted to. Drop in the bucket.
They'll take their profits.. and for now I'll let them have them.. But they better be reinvested in decoupling the supply from the world market just a bit more than it is currently.
Think about it though.. we're getting a gallon of fluid that's a byproduct of some sludge drilled up halfway around the world and refined to hell for about the same price as bessie the cow can produce me a gallon of milk. In the grand scheme it's not bad yet.

Slight drop at the pumps... $1.134/L now. Mind you, I just filled up with diesel for $1.019/L.
