Nord Stern back to windows up

I just read in the Nord Stern newsletter that the rules have been finalized to have windows up (or nets) and use turn signals instead of point bys.

Did they say why? I thought the rationale for the change was pretty good.

If I don't have a window or net on the passenger side I'll need to install one then? Will this be in effect for RA?

Also I'm assuming point-by will be good for those cars without working signals?

I want to inform everyone of new Driver Education Rules for
passing and the use of windows. We have reviewed the PCA
suggested guidelines for DE events, but we have adopted rules
specific for our club and the safety of our participants. Our Board
has adopted the following rule changes:
All passing shall be ww by contract. The driver being passed
must use an electronic turn signal for each car being allowed
to pass.

• Passing is allowed on any straight portion of the track
  provided the pass can be completed safely before the next
  corner. This rule can be modified with designated passing
  zones for an event or run group(s) by the Safety Chair(s)
  upon consultation with the Chief Driving Instructor, as
  needed.
  
• The car being passed shall remain on the driving line and
  the passing car shall go offline to pass. The driver of the car
  being passed shall indicate with the use of the turn signal
  which side the pass is to be made on.
  
• All windows should be up except those cars using a
  window net. The windows can be “cracked” slightly to allow
  for in cabin circulation.

There were pros and cons to windows down. I would guess Saftey was a deciding factor. Keeping limbs and heads inside the car is important.

Good question Rob.... do Turn Signals become a tech items then? The were before.

We'll get some of those suction cup trailer lights and stick 'em on your trunk.

Confusion is a saftey issue as well. And I think this will be confusing for anyone who participates in multiple clubs, as most other clubs run with windows down and use point-bys.

Agree 100% I've yet to run with a group that runs windows up and blinkers, I'm already confused

I'll bring the post it notes for your steering wheel. Just put one on there that says

"Use your turn signal stupid!!"

How many of you will be riding around with passengers anyway? You can have your windshield down with no one next to you.

For those wanting them, I'll probably have passenger side nets available by RA time.

*Edit: I forgot some of you don't have driver's side window nets.

I'm worried about blinkers as a tech item too. You think they'll let me use a point-by or should I be wiring up a solution?
