Comments on G-Force SRS-1 H&NR
http://www.saferacer.com/gfsrheresy.html
Ok, all this talk about H&NR got me to thinking about getting a H&NR. I currently have the G-Force Pro-Force 1 helmet. It is already set up for use with the G-Force SRS-1 H&NR system.
The SRS1 is pretty cheap relative to other H&N systems, it also looks like it is easy to use and doesn't limit mobility that much. These are key features that I would want.
What is your opinions on its effectiveness. What about the cons of this system?

Was it tested for SFI or anything? Any numbers on the thing?

This link has the most info on the system that I could find. It states that it was sled tested at Delphi, Wayne State University, and other labs, but it doesn't mention the numbers on that page.
Please take a look at that link and let me know what you think.

I always prefer simple, elegant, inexpensive solutions to wildly over-engineered ones... but the hardware on that device seems a little bit light-weight. I'm sure that sled data will ultimately show one way or another... but that thing looks like something I would whip up in the garage.

Found this
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_344406_-1
So it looks like it is only good up to a 50G frontal impact, which is better than nothing. However, it also means it does not pass SFI and offers significantly less protection than SFI rated devices.
Whether or not it is worth the money is up to you.

Yeah.. stupid Leatt brace! become a reality!
I like this part:
"The test was a 50G pulse at the drivers seat. This may not sound like much, but it is like hitting a concrete wall and stopping with a 50G impact."
Umm.. we ALREADY didn't know how much 50G was when it 'didn't sound like much', so how will we know how much it is when you use it in your example?

I don't know if I like the fact that you have to customize both the cable on the helmet AND the length of the loop. Seems like alot of room for error with respect to getting it right, and possibly alot of cost if things change.

Isn't saying the impact was 50Gs also useless without knowing how long that 50G occured? 50G for 1 second is alot worse than 50G for 0.1 seconds...

It's not as good as the others then. 3435N at 50G where as the current crops of H&Ns are under 1500N at 70G. Still, better than a sharp stick in your eye.

Suggest staying with something SFI approved. If a sanctioning body (like SCCA or NASA) will require a H&N restraint, they are most likely going to require an SFI approved device.
