Default Media shows bad example

I am just watching "Victory by Design" on SpeedTV and it's a great show on Ferrari. Alain du ? is on explaining the history of the marque and doing test drives. I was thinking about helmets and the open cars... as he was wearing none. It became a bit repulsive when they showed him in later Sports Car Racers with goggles, nothing but a flock of hair.. zipping around Laguna & ?

Kids, don't do this at home.

Nice cars though..

I didn't like the Porsche one, too much on the older cars or LeMans cars.

That's why I loved the Porsche one . Then again, I'm also thinking of getting into vintage racing, so I'm a fan of old cars.

As for Alain driving without the helmet, I can't imagine he would be pushing the car too hard just because of what he's driving. I've driven on the track at 6/10 a few times without a helmet, not a big deal.

I think they're pretty much all like that Billy. the ferrari one did get up to the 333sp though. if you think about it porsche doesn't have much that's in those classes any more though.. they pretty much focused on the racing history and until the spyder rs they don't have much except the cup cars.

Someone once compared vintage car racing to standing in a cold shower tearing up ten-thousand dollar bills. Kind of like sailboat racing, just a lot more dangerous....having a big-off in a '50s vintage race car is definately the beginning of a bad afternoon. Suddenly you wished you hadn't left fifty years of safety technology back in the paddock.

Something could break on the highway as well, or I could be hit head-on by a truck. I've done laps at Calabogie, Tremblant and Mosport at reduced speeds without a helmet. It was not more dangerous than my drive to work.

Huh? Who is "someone"? My "vintage" car is my 20 year old 911. If I die in it, then so be it.

Stacy, I think you missed my friend Fred's point. I believe he was referring to vintage cars like Ferrari GTO's and other mega valuable racers with huge collector value. My vintage car is a 16 going on 17 year old 911 also. I just don't want this to turn into another Jester911 vs Skeen exchange that can be seen on the 996 RSR @ Road Atlanta thread. Lets play nice.
