Porsche Spyder in pole!
After what can only be called a disastrous first outing, Porsche hits back with overall pole over the Audis. Pretty cool.

A little off topic, but if you like 1) RS Spyder, and 2) ALMS, and 3) Incredible Automotive photography, check out the photos by our own "Thawley" out on the ALMS Site...

St. Pete is a street circuit and the P1 Audis cannot run away from the P2 Porsches like they did at Sebring. I'm also waiting to see how Melo / Ferrari and Bergmeister / Porsche "interact" in GT2. All in all this ALMS season looks to be good viewing as P1 and P2 will have some great dicing. (let us not forget how well the Acura P2's ran at Sebring) GT1 looks to be dull and GT2 promises to be exciting as Porsche can no longer expect the automatic win as in years past.

I am looking forward to tonight at 7pm CST and watching the race on Tivo. Should be an exciting race overall and it will be interesting to see how the cars handle the rough track.

Dumas gets jumped by an R10 at the start and the race is over. Compared to the Sebring race this was pretty dull. More real racetracks and fewer street circuits. Grrr.

A little note... Tomas Enge driving the Petersen/White Lightning 430 crashed on lap 87 while leading GT2. Suffered a shattered elbow, broken ribs and collapsed lung... wishing him all the best. I hope he came make it to LeMans, but I doubt it.

Wow Andris I didn't know it turned out that bad. He hit really REALLY damn hard but I never knew it ended up so bad. Same goes for me wishing him the best and I hope to see him in France.
As I was telling Billy today, this was was boring as all hell after the first lap. The RS Spyder guys must have took some lessons from the Ferrari guys at Sebring because damn were they ever happy to pull of a Dale Earhart move on the other cars. I think 3 or 4 ended up with penalties. But like I said last week racing is racing.

I skimmed over the article and didn't even notice the possible broken ankle (assuming left one, based on the impact). That probably seals his fate for June.

Between Audi and Porsche I don't know who's the bigger bully. Granted the Audi's were bullying the porsches, but that first start was just freakin ugly. I mean you've got the fastest car BY FAR. We know you want to be in the front.. just be patient and you'll be there. sheesh.
