Mitsu Lancer Evo X
X is Roman for ten. But we'd like to think it denotes and X rating--for the meanest, rawest Evo ever made. This future rally rocket was first previewed by the Concept X from last year's Tokyo auto show, and now a closer version is being shown here at Detroit. When the car goes on sale around this time next year, power will continue to come from a 2.0-liter turbo four, but output will push past the current Subaru WRX STI's 300-hp rating and a new, aluminum block will be used. Because it would be a shame not to use the new Outlander SUV's lovely magnesium-alloy paddle shifters, an automated manual transmission will be offered alongside a traditional 5-speed manual box. Naturally, the Evo will be driven by all four wheels, via a new S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) system that Mitsubishi promises will rival Honda's SH-AWD in sophistication. The new system will feature active steering, active yaw control, and myriad electronic sensors. We hope S-AWC doesn't compromise the great steering possessed by Evos VIII and IX--after all, Mitsubishi promises this will be the "largest leap in overall capability between two generations of the Evolution."

Like it so far. would love to see a decent shot of the rear. front reminds me of the skyline r34, and that's a good thing. The back of the VIII and IX never did anything for me, but the number generally made up for it.

I want to know how much HP the US market will get. The Evo VIII and IX had 300, 320, 360, 400HP models all available in the UK. We got stuck with a mere 280HP

Not without voiding the warranty. You could argue that weight reduction is easy to come by with this stuff too, as there are tons of CF hood/roof/trunk kits available for these cars.

the 360+ HP models were done by factory authorized aftermarket tuners.

Point remains though, they weren't available in the US. You could go to a Mitsu dealer in the UK and buy an Evo VIII FQ360 or FQ400 and have it serviced and waranteed there. Dealers in the US only had the base 280HP edition.

I'm sure if a US tuner went to Mistu and offered such a deal, they would have taken them up on it. Much like Saleen does with ford.

It's a pretty car. The UK 400bhp versions needed servicing every 4k miles etc. Not cheap beasts to own.
This sounds like that prototype car made by Prodrive demoed on top gear.

Prodrive does the Impreza rally cars, not the Evos, I'd be surprised if they licenced their diffs or any other tech to Mitsubishi. The Prodrive P2 Top Gear had uses an STi engine/drivetrain as well as a Subaru chassis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prodrive_P2
