I was Goggling and ran into this NZ club racing info. Some useful data here. I'll try to post ones from various snactioning orgs as time goes on.

And The 900 Lb Gorrilla Walks Into The Room

all motorsport orgs that are sanctioned by the FIA are going to be required to use the Hans eventually. I haven't seen any evidence that the FIA has even considered any alternative devices - anybody found anything? I'd be willing to bet that Hubbard-Downing somehow supports the FIA.

Keep in mind... this rulebook appears to have been written during or prior to 2005... some of the alternative H&NR systems may not have been prevalent in New Zealand at the time.

I think that Hubbard is on the FIA safety board. But if you look at the list of supported devices that meet the FIA spec there are more than just the HANS out there. I am not sure what they are but Stand 21 and even Renault (for Fernando Alonso) have made their own.

they are all variations on the hans design (schroth, stand21, some F1 teams)
I could be wrong but I don't thnk Hubbard in on the FIA Safety board - there is a guy named Hubert Gramling on that board that worked with Hubbard when they were first working on a h&nr for F1.
Speaking of safety standards, I was reading the SFI 38.1 spec the other day. They include some "requirements" (including single-point-of-release) in a section titled "Definitions", and then don't document the procedure to be used to validate compliance to those requirements. They define some terms and then don't use them anywhere. Kind of messed up...
cheers,
bruce

Did some research tonight and you are right Hubbard is not on the board at least not that I can find. Thanks for pointing this out. You lead to me reading alot more.
I have to say I also am disappointed in the ambiguity of some of the SFI 38.1 spec after reading it tonight. I am going to send an email to them tomorrow and see if we can get any commentary from them on these items here at Trackpedia.

I heard from Joe Marko that the "experts" will be talking about the 38.1 spec at the SAE Motorsports Engineering conference next week (the one where Gregg will present). Also on the agenda is discussion of "SFI 38.2 Sportsman Head and Neck Restraint". Not clear who the intended users of that standard are - could be karting, etc.
cheers,
bruce
