Default Volvo S60 turbo data at BIR, wow!

This surprised the hell out of me. 2:05 around BIR in a S60 turbo on summer tires. Wow! Check out the braking 1.2G and acceleration numbers of 0.4G. Lateral G is very impressive also.

Check out the S60 turbo (2:05) against a 996 (coilovers and R rubber, 1:55).

Yep that's his car. And as you can see, it's not just his car, he's driving it very well.

Pretty impressive. His tires were going today so he couldn't improve but next year he can get R compounds.

Thanks for the kind words Billy. It was great to meet you and Eric and John and have a helluva time up there. And double thanks for letting me use your logger! Let me know when you get the later runs uploaded, I might have some better times, or at least some better turns which would lower that "theoretical best time". That software is freakin cool.

Also btw, my tires are under the All Season category on tirerack (Pirelli PZero Nero M+S). The M+S (supposedly) stands for Mud+Snow... granted they are probably the stickiest all-seasons you'll find. My new tires (already delivered to the shop in Roch) are summer compound (235/45YR-17 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Positions) and should go on tomorrow. Hopefully these will help give me more grip next season. Some aftermarket brake pads will also be going on at some point over the winter. I could only do maybe 2-3 laps doing threshold breaking at every corner before the "TRACTION CONTROL TEMPORARILY DISABLED" displays in the dash (TC was off, but it still forces it off if brakes get too hot). However, doing 90% braking at each corner kept the heat below that threshold, and you can still have quite a few time driving that way.

Actually Jim I have a T5 if you double-check my swedespeed sig, a few power mods to bring it to R levels (~300HP), never dynoed it though. 98 octane plus fairly cool weather at the track definitely helps! I think an R (AWD) would be at least 2 secs quicker, all else being equal, since it can put it's power down alot better on corner exit, whereas I get massive understeer (FWD) unless I adjust my line and throttle application accordingly.

I'm still gathering pics from the event, I'll post them somewhere appropriate later this week.

Yeah they seemed to want to give a bit sooner (say 5mph lower speed) through T1 and T2 than previous days... or maybe it was just me... I was experimenting with apexing a bit later while getting on the throttle sooner... it was also maybe 15F warmer mid-afternoon today than saturday morning. Regardless, today's headwind down the main straight had already made odds of beating 2:05.9 pretty much unpossible. I doubt my G2X data from today shows and speeds higher than 125 - quite a bit down from 131 on saturday.

Anyway, the car has been reliable, flawless, other than turning the tires and brake pads all gooey heh. No turbo hoses blown off, though I did retighten the clamp on the turbo-to-ic hose after a hot run and it seemed to be maybe 1.5 turns looser than normal, so maybe it is still slowly wiggling free during these track days and I just have to keep checking it as necessary.

Regarding R-Compounds, are they something suitable for a daily driver in warmer months (I will have snow tires for winter). I don't think I'll be able to invest in a 3rd set of rims any time soon Other priorities....

if you get the Bridgestones you will be perfectly fine. The BFG KD's or Yoko RE048s are to dry oriented.

Another excellent tire would be the BFG KDW2.

Great! They're going on tomorrow morning, can't wait to break them in. Also new glass is going in Friday, I got a chip on the passenger side, I think from a small rock in turn 1 or maybe 2, I vaguely recall hearing a whack around there on one of my laps. This will be my 5th windshield on this car - three cheers for zero-deductible glass replacement!

If you didn't drive so damn fast, you probably wouldn't be breaking all those windshields!
