hah.. jim's cell phone solution would actually do that! those are nationwide walkie talkies, right? And I think I saw a commercial where you can get walkie conferences going.

If you have Verizon and use their "In" stuff and get coverage at the track, you have duplex radio, no need for PTT

Tried that Sparco button with the race car. In fact, we get a darn good discount from Sparco. If I could offer my 2 cents on the quality. Sparco sells good seats and steering wheels and they should do just that. That Sparco SPST switch is awful. We had some noise issue when we use it as a PTT with the radio. I took apart the switch and the contact design is quite filmsy.
Rob, if you really need this mod, PM me and we can work out a solution. You from SD yes?

Anyone get this to work well?
Anyone want to do a brief write up on the equipment that is needed and what modifications need to be done.

If you want to assure coverage, get GMRS radios. You can get a license for that in most cases. They are higher power.
You can buy used Motorola Radius radios pretty cheaply, I can program them to your freqs.
Those have provision for various accessories inc ext PTT etc.
