Default Mid-life crisis

... not for me though. My mom's been throwing around the idea of getting a small sports car. Keep in mind that previous cars have included a Fiat and Opel GT and lately an assortment of Jettas. The idea started with a 2-3 year old Mazda Miata/MX-5, then I suggested a 4-5 year old Audi TT to keep it in the VAG family. Well, it got worse this weekend while I was partying in Michigan. This is how my dad told the story...

My parents were driving back from the cottage and stopped for a few minutes at a gas station. A certain mid-engine sports car rolls past then peels out of the lot. My mom sees it. "Oooh, what was that?" to which my dad replies "The new Lotus." "Really!?!?! Maybe I should get one of those instead."

I haven't got the heart to tell her that it's out of her price range. Got any other ideas between 20-25k?

Actually, I was the one in MI partying with friends near Three Rivers (south of K-zoo), NOT my parents... they were somewhere between LCMT and Calabogie +/- 50km.

Which begs the question, why didn't I spot you?!?!?!? Ah, right... because I stopped only once for diesel.

Different bumper regulations in Canada meant that the Elise was available only a year or two later than the US. Also, means that importing one from the US is a little harder... and makes resale values much higher. 2006 models are still selling for $56k.
