That would be interesting, an 130whp sp1 straight to a 430whp cup car. I'm debating racing in PCA with the car, I'll do another year DE regardless before doing anything silly.

Just for comparison...

BIR Club Race track record is 2:04.044. I think only one person has ever run a SP1 there and he isn't as fast as some people. Class I is 2:03.0 by a good driver.

2:10 will be a good goal for the end of this year. I wouldn't expect it first time out.

Agreed,
Under 2:10 would be cool. First fling had an sp1 doing a 2:04.x but the driver was an ex or current racer in the skip barber series and so is guaranteed faster than me and thats fine.

Apparently, the class I record for Road America is 2:48 which is amazing with what seems like 160bhp. Conan managed a 2:47 in his 350Z which seems slow in comparison given the bhp advantage he had. Granted, the class I probadly had double konis and hoosies on and the driver was probadly an experienced racer also. But, still 2:48 seems a wicked time at that track for a low hp car given the straights.

It makes sense to me. Let's do some math:

Conan at RA: 2:47. That's 2.78 minutes. So,
(60 min/1 hr)(4.048 miles/2.78 min) = (appx) 87 mph avg.
Conan at BIR: 1:57. That's 1.95 minutes. So,
(60 min/1 hr)(3.1 miles/1.95 minutes) = (appx) 95 mph avg.
That's makes me 8% faster at BIR where HP means more than it does at RA.

Class I record at RA: 2:48. That's 2.80 minutes. So,
(60 min/1 hr)(4.048 miles/2.80 min) = (appx) 86.7 mph avg.
Class I record at BIR (according to BBailey): 2:03. That's 2.05 minutes, so
(60 min/1 hr)(3.1 miles/2.05 minutes) = (appx) 90 mph avg.
That makes the Class I 5% faster at BIR than at RA.

Now, since RA requires more skill and more grip to be faster, those numbers make total sense to me.

I wasn't suggesting it was THE answer. Just part of it.

You need to consider the whole package; HP, weight, tires, etc. Skippy cars weigh 1200lbs, and have approx 130 HP. good for 2:33s (from me) at RA

My stock 94 Vette had 300hp, same driver, same track, 2:46s. Need to be carefull when comparing lap times that you are talking apples to apples...

Just the hood is 79lbs with fiber glass its 16lbs. Magnus set me off on this, he says he drove a 2300lb 944 with driver in Sweden, pretty light but all panels were fiber glass.
Oopsss.. perhaps your wallet would have been better of if I wouldn't have mentioned that

Anyway, here's a picture for inspiration:
100% gutted, all possible panels replaced including windows and doors. Even side mirrors are replaced to smaller ones
