Stack,
As stated on another thread "you are a lucky dog to live so close to VIR". Yes everyone has heard of VIR. Just some of us can't get there as easily.:) 780 miles for me. I towed my car there for the first time the weekend before Thankgiving in 2004 at the last G&W Fall Fling. It was wonderful, scary, fun, humbling, scary, and fun. I had never driven VIR and was told I could get an instructor for a session or two. Wrong. When the 3 of us Northeast Region drivers arrived we were on our own. We had all done a lot of homework, in-car vid, printing off the corner by corner track guide, making copious notes, etc. All of us were solo drivers but not that much time in solo. Well the first day was survival as my arm got sore waving Cup Cars, Ferrari's (including two Ferrari Challange cars) Corvette Z05's, Vipers, and various and sundry SCCA hardcores driving almost anything. Oh, there were a number of Grand Am and ALMS drivers there too just having some fun. Coming out of the Oak Tree turn I saw David Murry charging up behind me in his GT3RS Cup and I'm proud to day I made him work for the pass...all 2.1 seconds of it  The second day was a lot more fun as I had some idea of how to drive the track and had some fun reeling in my fair share of higher HP cars. I will return. Perhaps as soon as 3/31-4/2 w/Zone 2 PCA. New England weather gods permitting. I could still be snowed in, but I'm getting the car ready:) This time it will be a PCA event and I can have an instructor work with me for a sesion or two. If that works out, I'll be ready for the next Synergy Fall Fling and this time I will not feel like a fish out of water;)

LOL ... yeah, I heard some horror stories about that event :D
Our April weekend has always been VERY good to us weather-wise... I highly encourage you to make the trek down for our North Course event (some people say its their favorite configuration). We've been on the South Course that weekend for the last 5 years, so we're excited to be 'moving up' so-to-speak. Sad that we'll be losing the 'Corkscrew-esque' spiral from South Course, but hey... with that track in such demand, ya gotta take what you can get :D
I guess what I was really referring to when I said not many people know about it is that locals really don't know its there... I grew up in Durham, which is literally only about 45 minutes from the track... and had never heard of it until a few years after it was resurected in the late 90's. When I told my Dad I was going up there, he looked puzzled and made sure I was talking about the same track he used to frenquent when he was young (stories of fireball out-houses rolling down hills ensued).
It truly is a wonderful, beautiful place to spend a weekend playing with cars, we're very fortunate in this region to have it.

Stacy,
We will meet one day. That is a given. As far as driving VIR goes I have to attend events with the full 3+ miles to make it worth my time to tow down. Hey, maybe at the end of this eason we can hook up at the Synergy Fall Fling:)
