There is no back pad with the Pro. We have sold many, many units for rally and road racing and no complaints! =) Here is a link with many questions answered, http://www.safetysolutionsracing.com/why-safety-solutions (http://www.safetysolutionsracing.com/why-safety-solutions)

We also have used Hybrid and Hybrid Pro "Rage" available for as low as $545 with free shipping. These are used Hybrid units from our Rent to Own program and are in "like new" condition, most with 2-4 events on them. Each used device is inspected by me before shipment.

What is the difference between the R3 and the Hybrid?

I instruct HPDE, so I'm looking for a H&N that can be used without harnesses and be able to easily move from car to car.

Recommendations?

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the great questions!

Short answer: R3 is the best choice for instructors. :)

On the most basic level, the Hybrid adds (over R3) the two connection points at the harness buckle. These connections triangulate the device, which is good for safety when used with a race harness.

For use with a stock type 3 point seatbelt, like what you see a an instructor, the R3 is the better choice. The R3 can be used even is karting or other non seatbelt vehicles. This is because R3 has a slightly longer (than Hybrid) back board that uses a single chest strap to help restrain the head and neck.

Both Hybrid and R3 are very comfortable and require use of an In Seat U Shape Foam Insert that you will have to take with you from car to car. It's not the end of the word though, very easy really.

Excellent info, thanks. I'm not sure what size to get. I think I am between a med and a large. I'm 6'2", 190lbs, chest is 42" with suit on.

Also what angle do I get? Mostly in street based track cars.

Well, you're right on the bubble size wise. I would have you sit down (with drivers suit on) and then measure two places, 1) across pecks and 2) under pecks. If this leaves us with the same dilemma then I would just have a custom unit made for you (no cost, just call me).

With R3 Carbon Fiber ($995), you get these three options with respect to seat angle.

For folks using mostly stock street car type seat or even most real "Sedan" race seat like FIA Homologated seats I recommend the 10 - 30 Contoured Style.

R3 Rage ($649) is only available as a "0 degree Strait". I have used R3 Rage in FIA Homologated race seats and it is very comfortable for me. I have also had many of these out for Rent to Own customers doing track day events using stock seats / seatbelts, I've had zero complaints.

I'm a little over 43" around the pecs and a little over 40" under the pecs.
I'm assumming that the carbon fiber/composite peice is the same size for all and that the strap is what is different sizes?
Can custom straps be retrofitted?

Hi Scott,

Yes, the carbon fiber/composite peice is the same for all R3, but the Child R3. Child R3 is a specific peice. Otherwise, only the chest strap changes for size.

We have a Chest Extender ($55) available. This product will for example, make a Medium device into a Large.

Custom sizing of the device itself is also available by special order.

Lastly, the device could be "re-webbed" at a later date and at that time be made into another size.

I sent my friend Dan Feldman over to you for an R3. Not sure if he ordered yet. He has a HANS but doesn't like it, tried my R3 and like it, so is planning on getting one.
