So,
My tie downs arrived today.

They bolt on to the subframe. The instructions are good, torque settings for the bolts etc. Will try to do it tomorrow. 80 bucks.

That's a lot better than running wheel straps thru your front and back wheels. Good move Billy.

Billy, why don't drill holes in the solid parts to make them aerodynamic like those pedals?:D

Excellent idea. I got my locktite blue today so I'll out them on in the afternoon after the d1 race

So
They are on. The front was easy. There's a bolt which screws in to the frame. Unscrew it, put some lock tite on it, bolt it back to 88ft/lbs with the hook attached. It certainly felt a lot less than 88 when I was unbolting it. The instructions are not clear for how to 'angle' the hooks. The text says 45o to center which implies a 45 degrees to the cars side to me but the two pictures show different angles. I settled for the hook at 0 to the side. You can see in the shot below, they are in the same plane as the wheels.

The rears were another ball game. The bolts are just under and behind the sway bar. So, they are tricky to get at. I unbolted from the other/front side using a wrench with another wrench on the other side. The attribute of the hooks is fixed on the rear but the problem is retorqueing them. My long torque wrench won't fit under the car on jack stands. I bought a 3/8' sears torque wrench then which fits but it wouldn't click and in the end I was afraid to try tighten it more. It may be just the awkward angle means it feels tighter than it is.

Anyway, they are on for now, they look pretty nice. My only worries are:

1) The correct angle for the front hooks.
2) The torque for the rear bolts.

Looks like a dud torque wrench, doesn't click on my wheel lugs either. Back to sears.

you would think they would mean 45* with the front pointed towards the outside of the car to make connecting the hook easier.... but I dunno

So you reckon, rotate the hook in the picture 45 degrees to the front? Clockwise in the picture

Those work very well. I have been using them for years. Vert easy to install and tie down the car. Doe snot mess with the wheel alignment like it does when you tie down by the wheels.

Kary
How do you have the front ones aligned on yours?

Billy those tie downs are a great idea, can you please let me know where I can buy them?
Karry, can you tell me if the location to mount these on the 993 is obvious? Thanks! :)

I bought it from these guys. Bunch of racers themselves. I saw em in the GT race in Lime Rock yesterday.

Billy,
I am moving from FL to AZ this week and will be trailering the GT3 behind my Land Rover. I have ordered these hooks but need to find a trailer to rent one way. Any suggestions, tips etc? My father used to rent U-hauls before he bought his trailer up there. I checked the U-haul website and they claim that their trailers will not work with a GT3?
Thanks in advance.

Luis, Their trailers are pure junk. I'd never put my car on one. I wish I had a place to refer you to. You'd need an aluminum trailer and a one way rental will be hard. Have any PCA buddies in FL that you could ask for advice? You may want to call one of the professional car transport carriers for a quote. Intercity is one of the biggies. Insured, bonded, etc. Good luck.

I am leaving Saturday. Unfortunately, it looks like I will be adding 2k miles to my car this week. :( Oh well, that is what they are for right? :)

I'd rather drive a GT3 for 2000 miles than tow it. :D Send the Land Rover out Fed Ex Ground. Stay in touch, left us know what mischief you find out west.
