Wicked video, really shows how much your head can move even with a Hans on which doesn't offer much in the way of lateral protection.

Actually it looked to me that the Hans did come into play. That said, my right side net is in and I expect to buy a new Halo seat next year when my seats expire.

If I have any money left from the cage mods, I'm going tobuy a Cobra Suzuka seat which should be a lot better than my Pole Position. If not then I'm running a side net on both sides this year anyway, should help support the seat as well as the head if the worst happens.

a Sparco Circuit might be a better bet for a few $ more

I have the Suzukas now and I love them. Several others who've sat in mine, bought their own. Tested to 70G+, great seat, very rigid with no noticeable flexing under load. Personally, I'm sticking with Cobras given the cost/performance, next stop an Evolution. That said, a seat is a very personal thing, what fits for one is a nightmare for another.

I have I'd say good seats right now with the Recaro Pole Positions but I haven't seen any other seats like the Sukuza based Cobras on the market. Even their 800 dollar seat uses a kevlar construction to make it a lot stronger than a conventional Recaro/Sparco seat save for the carbon fiber models.
I've been taken in by the 65G claims of Cobra for their seats, 4x FIA strength. I can't see any other seat on the market under a kilo buck like it for now.

does anybody know how the driver felt after the crash? e.g. would a right side net have helped?

Those interested in discussing side net testing may want to go here: http://www.rsicommunity.org/
If you register, you'll find a link to discussion forums.

Or continue discussing it here like we always do.

We are not discussing testing here.
jamesb

Absolutely, you are not discussing certification testing with RSI here. I still would like to see what people think and have to say about the inside net without having to jump to RSI to continue watching the conversation. I would say the same thing if FIA or SFI where sniffing around here to move discussions.

Ah, so that's it. I forgot about the commercial aspects.

Exactly, as a consumer of this site I prefer the discussions that start here stay here. If people want a side bar over there go for it. I have no doggie in your fight man. I sell nothing, I use many products.

^ Nice looking seat.
James,
That's cool. I understand. These are very different subjects, so my post was pointing to a sidebar.

I missread your post then. I really do want to hear what others think about whats out there today as I don't have a spare 1k to dump on a racetech full surround seat. currently I am considering the just a better seat like the kirkey road race and a side net since I have never been too happy with the shoulder area of my momo corse seat. Either way this season I will have an inside net.

Good idea.
BTW, does anyone have a list of commercially available side nets?
Not a complete, unabridged list, but here are some from one of our sponsors:

Off the top of my head you have
Safety Solutions
Piper Motorsports
C5R
Teamtech
Simpson
I personally been looking at the C5R or teamtech just due to the cost to me for ordering.

Do you guys use something like this for lateral head movement?

Don't remember who, but someone has the sports car version of that on order, but they're selling so many of the motorcycle ones, the sports car ones were back ordered.

Well they have always been popular with motocrossers. Lately though, they have been gaining more ground in the road racing crowd as well. I havn't seen anyone in WERA with it yet. I'd like to know how much it restricts head and neck movement while on the track. Being in a tuck and moving around to see through the turns requires some freedom of movement. I just wondered how much these allow.

AFAICT, Leatt has yet to ship a Moto-R version to a normal consumer in North America.
Jim, you're the one who has an order in, right?

I'm thinking it's been delayed due to design changes. I was chatting with the Leatt folks at PRI and noticed the sample they had differed from the original.
Just speculation on my part, but they may be trying to accommodate U.S. and non-U.S. markets without having to make two versions.
