I mixed together most of EJ's video of John racing at RA in August... clicky:

Yes, it's 720P HD... if enough people complain, I'll make a low res version available...

OK, low tech Lobo here complaining. My WMV player won't buffer the hi-res.
That's not John's car, its a rent-a-racer. :) Good to have good and trusting friends.

Sorry Lobo, I doubt it will play in anyone's browser, bitrate is very high since it's HD. Try right-click save-as then play once you've got it all downloaded. If it's choppy still, let me know and I'll make a more low-tech version available.

It played fine over my high speed cable modem and it looks awesome! What kind of camera did you use? I'm looking to replace mine and was considering HD since the price has dropped so much.
Looks like he had a fun race with that Miata toward the end of the tape. Its always fun to have someone to dice with even if they aren't in your class.

It's Eric's, it's a Sony, so it's probably one of these:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=3556
It writes to MiniDV tapes, so probably the HDR-HC7 model... I'll let EJ correct me if I'm wrong. It records in 1080i HDV 30FPS natively (writes MPEG2 streams to the tapes), I scaled down to 720P and reencoded to save space/bandwidth :)
Since it writes to tapes, you can strap it to a roll cage or similar and get good in-car video as well as you can see here (http://www.trackpedia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3317). Cameras that write to hard disks or DVDs directly don't like all the bumps and crap out.
You got it Warp... that's the one. My in-car vids don't do it justice, as the camera was secured with 3 bucks worth of Galvanized steel and some hardware. (forummers know how cheap I am) If I had a cage to mount it to, I think the Vibration problem would be solved. The mountpoint is well balanced, and the camera is small. Definitely get a tripod or monopod for filming events.

I just decided to download it, 632 meg in 40 mins. Thank you!
Very nice video. Do you have any in car vid?

Crappy low-res streaming version of this video added here: http://www.archive.org/details/TrackpediaVideo
Sorry, no in-car video from this race as far as I know :(
We had an in-car system with us, but ran out of time to install it. Apparently, SCCA mandates two screws for the camera and the recorder... we were going to use duct tape to tape the bullet cam on the rook and then put the recorder in his pocket (it's small) but they wouldn't go for that.

I wish I had in car video but as Eric said I couldn't get my setup on the car in time for the race. I will however be using the excellent in car setup that Traqmate loaned us for my race at Gateway International here next weekend.
Smarlow your right it is always fun to have someone to dice with. The 944 SP1 is massively over matched in ITS as you know so I set my sites on the miatas and had a blast. They were quicker through some of the tighter parts of the track while I had them under braking and at the top end. Overall a hell of a good time.
One thing I know once again from watching this video is that I suck ass at the start of the race and always fall back. Then 3 laps in I start picking up the pace and picking people off. Ah well always something to work on. :D
