Cool glad to hear your going Billy. I would join ya but to much effort and to little cash to get ready for racing at Gateway at the end of October.

Ouch... 4+ miles and only 20 minutes? I guess it's the same thing for VIR's Grand East.

Lap times should be between 2:50 and 3:00, it's a fast track but yep, longer sessions would be real nice but I don't see anyone doing like open track there.

I will be there again this year, for the second or third year with MFBA. I like to go spring and fall as it can be such a long winter with no track time and they are the first and last dates. IIRC the BMW club or Cobra club have an open track day at Road America, IIRC it is a friday though. I should start a blog so I don't have to remember so much. :)

Sounds good! I have a white '88 Corvette and signed up for Sunday only. I hope to have more time to chat, the driving wears me out so I sometimes just rest between sessions.

What a day today. 3 cars totalled, a C5 vette (t6 in to wall, broken ankle) , a Z06 (t7 into wall) and a 997 GT3 (kinked ping pong style). I wouldn't blame the organizers, two mandatory drivers meetings in one day, they told everyone to settle, were prompt with black flags for ignoring blues etc. But, boys will be boys.

My car had the alternator belt explode again but I think thats sorted. Mark went through another set of tires because of flat spotting and earns the title of Public Tire Enemy #1 as a result.

I'm now done for the weekend with a whole one session to my credit but am happy that my one decent lap at the end of the first session matched my fastest time last time out so bring on next year.

I like the event and I think I'm coming back to one of these next year.

I'm home, I think it's a great event. I liked the attitude of the organizers, the drivers meetings were good and helpful and the passing rules consistent. Always pass on the left with a point by and the car giving the point by has to move offline.

I left this morning but the chaos of yesterday seemed over with with no incidents this morning.

The head guy mentioned what happened to the 997 GT3 yesterday. Apparently he was way over on the right coming out of the kink, not using all the track, and then lifted with the resulting spin and following ping pong totalled the car. Everything is videoed at Road America. There are something like 16 cameras with zoom and everything is displayed in the control room on 12 monitors. All video to recorded to a DVR so the safety director (carlson) can review any incident and decide what to do. If you do have a moment then apparently it's ok to head up and look at the video.

The saddest thing yesterday was the crashed z06 owner staring at the car on his trailer when we were leaving. Just quietly staring at the damage on his own. Tough day.

This weekend was all about getting friends and family a taste of the track, and using up the rest of this seasons rubber. I never ran a session without an extra 200 pounds sitting next to me. The extra weight and the fact that I back it down several 10th with passengers strapped in made lap times a non issue. With Billy's early departure and ran setting in, I packed up a bit early on Sunday, but as always had a great time. Only downside was that my G2X logger took a crap on the first day :(

As always, these guys put on a great event. Safe, well run and fun, I would recommend checking them out, one event in the spring and one in the fall. There were some "interesting" vehicles, V8 Esprit, Ferrari, Porsche, and of course a wealth of American Iron even a LS6 powered RX-8 wild

Sunday was a big rain out. I only got to run a 3:10 on the damp track in the morning and then the afternoon sessions were total rain. I took some video again though.

Sure! I don't use you tube very often though. I put it on Google video. My camera will only take 15 mins of video. I really need to look into a 20 min card to capture the whole session. You can see the moisture on the track at turn 1. I have been going to the MFBA event both spring and fall for a few years now. It's nice to get a fix before the long winter. I have been trying to decide who else to run with in the summer. I'd like another track event or two around mid-summer.

I really wanted to get a nice track time in but the wet weather didn't allow it. I'd also like to run with group C, I keep getting behind to many cars learning the track. It was a lot of fun though anyways. My father rode with every session, glad I got that extra helmet!

Sweet video man. I have to say I love your dad saying "I like that" when you went around T3. Would love to take my pops out for a ride sometime. Going to have to have him come along sometime so I can.

I have run with this group. Their events are well run but the carnage you saw is normal. Must be something in the water....they really attract bonehead drivers.

CMan,
Right on, I thought they did a great job running the event, best event I've been at so far in terms of that. Very clear and 'forceful' drivers meeting, good passing rules and passing zones.
