A vid of Walter driving a quattro through crowds lining a rally stage. One of the scariest things you'll see, check out the people...

Yep that is just absolutely insane man! I honestly can't believe the people on the side of the road. I was waiting to see someone lose a leg.
The man has unbelievable control on the gas and brake...check out how quick he moves the feet. Its all about left foot braking man if you want to be real quick...or so said Senna back in the days when the cars still have to be shifted.

U gotta figure that to drive through those crowds and have a career, you basically have to be perfect, losing control is just not an option...

Great video! I think a lot of his left foot braking was "brake boosting"--keeping the turbo spooled. He was applying more pressure in some cases, but pretty often it was after he had already slowed and downshifted and he wanted to get the power up for the exit of a corner.

I've done footwork exactly like that before in my 911.
Only it was because my hands and feet were totally confused as I ditched it off turn 4 at BIR...

A variation of the video I posted here.........

I'll not fault Rohrl, but a few thoughts.......
As much as I like seeing his feet and this wild Group B action, a couple things come to mind.
- obviously the spectators are dumb if not stupid. That's a phenomena that still exists today on Euro rallyes or for that matter even the Tour De France has seen similar dumbness (Armstrong's tangle with a spectator for example)
- but -
- I question the ethics of organizers and even drivers who do this. Sure Walter is the pro of pros on this kind of driving, but a blown tire might mean dead people. How right is that?
Who is at fault? It is hard to stop the masses from swarming the road, but there but one foot over the gas pedal.

These kind of things are more common than we see in the American press..........
