I'm just wondering. I see a lot of Volvos and Audis at HPDE and I'm wondering are they all stock or are they modded? What kind of mods do the owners make?

2004- R series Volvos are fast out of the box. Faster with mods like downpipe and "chip", 300 stock -> 345+ HP. Wicked brakes stock too.
David can comment on the T5

A T5 is basically an R with fewer drive wheels (FWD) and fewer HP (~250), though similar power upgrades are available (to 290-320ish). My brakes are also smaller, though still sufficient to stop the car very well with all-seasons at least as my G2X data shows. Yeah, they get alot hotter, but I still never felt much if any brake fade and they always had enough power to lock up the tires and force the ABS to kick in, at least at BIR. We'll see how they do at Road America in 9 days. I'll probably get slotted rotors and performance pads before next season's HPDE events begin. There are also various suspension upgrades available, but I doubt I'll go that route ever, this is a daily driver/long distance cruiser first, and a track car a distant second.

Where do you see them? Not counting my own car, I've never seen an Audi or Volvo at an HPDE event (3 Donnybrooke days at BIR plus Nordstern Last Fling 3 day event at BIR) other than the A8L 4.2 that was at Nordstern (now THAT is a boat). I've been trying to drag some folks from MNVolvo up there with me, but nobody has been able to so far :(

2001 S4 Avant, K04 Turbos and ECU, AWE Fueling Kit, Downpipes and Neuspeed Exhaust, StopTech Brakes, Stassis Tracksport Suspension, H-Sport Sway Bars
I probably have more, but I am getting old and have killed too many brain cells, so who remembers...

How much WHP does that setup net you?

There are usually Audi TTs and A4 station wagons at events I've been to.

I'll second Billy here. I have always seen TT's and S4's at the various events I have been too.

I've never had it on a dyno but my guess based on some road dyno testing is that I am running around 400 +/- at the crank on 92 octane and around 450 +/- on 100 octane with a bunch of torque.

The only dragging I do is down the main straight at BIR into T1! :D

Man, you've got more HP than the new RS4 when you're running 100 octane. You still on the stock intercooler? What speed are you hitting before braking for T1? I'm guessing 145-150 with a good jump out of T10...

I think it's more than that. I can manage 145 (140 on GPS) on the speedo before braking for T1.

Yes, stock IC's still. As for speed, you are right on. Billy, you've got to remember that my car weighs 3,800 lb. before I get my 250 lb body into it. :D
