I'm leaving on Sunday with Tailwagger and our buddy Mark (Uweave's LCMT instructor) for 2 days of DE at The Glen on Monday and Tuesday. I thought my personal summer of discontent would leave me with just 4 track days. Well it will be 6 days. I'm thrilled and the Hoosiers are reasonably fresh.
Hopefully we'll return with some vid and some photos.

Pack an aluminum pole....
Weather is unpredictable... right now they say OK down there.... but they lied to us for last Fri/Sat.. pack intermediate tires. Expect early AM fog...

The feats of strenght will come when (if) I need to change tires as my knee is still screwed up.
Jim, we always have the aluminum pole with us. Weather forcast looks OK so far, cloudy on Monday and sunny on Tuesday. Hope I can run w/o having to change tires. This is a total wate of time for newer members but for those who have been around you know how I'm "feeling the jones for a track fix".

Well this is about the best thing I have heard in a while for you buddy! Glad to hear your getting out and able to exercise the Porsche. :D
For the feats of strength i think driving the RSA on the edge counts.

Not too close to the edge :) Between the white lines, man! Have a great time. I hope Eric and I have luck at BIR next week.

As long as you have video of the 'Airing of Grievances' I'll be happy
I feel your jonesin' ... last event I did was early June... won't be back on track until NOVEMBER!! Not enough funds to do anyone elses's events yet

Thanks All, Hopefully the airing of grievances will not be neccessary. :) Aluminum pole packed. Yes Billy, safety first. And yes John once the track surface warms a bit and the tires and brakes are up I expect to do some honking around WGI.
Good luck to Eric & Billy at BIR too.

Be careful... forecast suggests poor track conditions...........
Good luck to Eric & Billy at BIR too.
Thanks!! Weather looks dodgy... so there might be some very entertaing footage of my first endeavor. Fortunately, the cameraman isn't showing up until Day 2, so I should be able to work out some of the kinks before they're documented:)

Always careful, from what I see about the weather it seems to be partly cloudy and sunny on Mon & Tues. I'll have the full tread RA1's in the truck and will change if needed. Otherwise it is Hoosier city. I know about the morning fog at WGI, last May we had to wait more than a half hour before they let the first session start. No one was bothered as this was advanced drivers only and open track for two days. I'm just thrilled to get in 2 more track days.

Eric if your first DE day is wet just take it easy, you have nothing to prove. If it dry take it easy you have nothing to prove either. Have fun and don't bend the 944. ;)
I'm looking at it differently. I DO have something to prove. I need to prove that someone from Rochester can make it through an entire HPDE without significant damage to their ride :D :D
(However, I am taking it up there on a trailer, just in case!)

Eric, taking the car on the trailer is always a good idea, why stress the car on the street, save it for the track! I hope you have a great event.

George, I am glad to read you are going to the Glen for a fall fling :) Are you running 17 or 18 inch wheels?

I have 17's the Hoosiers are 245/40/17 front and 275.40/17 rear on Kinesis 3 piece wheels.
Toyos are 235/40/17 & 275/40/17's on Turbo Twist wheels that are heavy when compared to the Kinesis wheels. Do you have wheels for sale?
Did the final prep today trailer inspected, car on trailer and tied down, all tire pressures checked, truck packed. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas. But I have to wait till tomorrow to leave

For those that come down I90 from the east to get to WGI...
The Sunoco Station just off the Weedsport exit has Sunaco 260GT, cheaper than at the track.

Thanks Jim, We always take I-88 from Albany to Binghamton. No tolls, less coppers around. Latest weather forecast looks good. I run my car on 93 octane and we fill up fuel jugs as needed in town.

Thanks for the link. I've bookmarked it. I think the weather will be a non issue. Either way I have the right tires.

No tires for sale, just someone who thinks he needs more breaking power and to get that would need 18' wheels... I say no, we have plenty of breaks and besides, there are a lot of other options out there that don't require bigger wheels.

Please tell your friend that 17's are just fine. 18's just make you pay more for the tires. Also suggest to your friend (I assume a Porsche driver) that race brake fkuid with higher temp ratings and track brake pads should do the trick. I'm off to bed, wheels rolling for the Glen tomorrow morning. :D

Relative to brakes and 17 vs 18 wheels...
In some cases 18" wheels let brakes cool better......
WGI WX... looks like it may be wet tmrw, real time condx grayer then predicted and forecast is changing

Well Jim, I'm glad to say you were wrong. We had two great days. Got home around midnite and off to bed. We have some digital photos that may or may not be good. 2 cameras were working. This will take a few days to straighten out and post a few shots. BTW, I had a Ferrari 355 in my run group. Great looking car, sounded great, driver was on the slow side and didn't put up much of a fight. :D Porsche rules.

George, I'm glad to see you had some fun with a Ferrari on the track. The F355 in the right hands can actually out run a 996 GT3 so my hat's off to you for out driving it.

Thanks Carm and John. The Ferrari was quick but I think the driver had less days at WGI than me and had a lot more to lose so he was not running full tilt. I did think of you guys when I got by the 355 several times. :) Yes it was so much fun and provided the brain flush and track fix I needed to get me in the right state of mind. Funny how track and crack rhyme?
